Divided by Design

"Without strong public policy, Atlantic Canada will never be a world leader," said John Risley in the November/December, 2006 issue of Atlantic Business Magazine. He's right: Canadians have turned their backs on the cold facts of our economic history and the high price paid for continual regional economic retardation.
In 1867, the Dominion of Canada Parliament was the creation of Victorian colonial politicians dedicated to perpetuating the constitutional monarchy and the concentration of political power under a single sovereign legislature in a united country with limited provincial powers. Without going into details, the diverse political union has endured constant mistrust and suspicion from provincial politicians who gained increasing political power and monetary rewards while successive federal governments failed to entrench and defend the national purpose.
